Pick out your sleeping bag according to what season it is. Bringing a sub-zero type of sleeping bag to use on a trip in the summer will make you sweat the entire night. The opposite is true as well, a summer bag won’t keep you warm in the winter. You may even get hypothermia.

Bring a bandanna or a large handkerchief with you when you go camping. This item has many different uses such as a hand towel and carrying bag. As you can see, a handkerchief can serve many different purposes on a camping trip.

Always have an emergency kit on hand when camping with family, or even staying alone. This kit must include the basics for the event of an emergency. For example, if you will be camping in a Southern state you should certainly carry anti-venom for the local wildlife that you may encounter.

Though you may believe that there will be sufficient wood lying around for your fire, you may only be able to find wet lumber that does not easily burn. To prevent this problem, bring along a few pieces of your own wood. Make sure to keep that wood dry in your car or another secure location.

To make your camping trip more enjoyable, bring along something luxurious. Whether this is a nice coffee creamer, or something as simple as candy, it will make you feel like you are at home. Comforts from home can really spice up the rustic outdoors!

Set your campsite, tent and sleeping bags up before it gets dark. When traveling in an RV, locate a safe parking area. Seek out flat, dry ground if you are roughing it with a tent. It is much easier to do these things during the day, and you can become familiar with the area. You can save time by knowing what you are doing.

Pack a survival kit and carry it on you at all times. Survival kits should contain waterproof matches, a survival knife, a first aid kit, a flare gun and water purifying tablets. Your survival kit can be the difference between you making it out of the woods on a stretcher or your own two feet. Remember to take it everywhere you go when you’re away from your campsite.
