Always find your shelter before it gets dark when you go camping. When night falls, making food, finding wood, and pitching your tent can be very difficult. This is particularly true for anyone accustomed to city living and unfamiliar with pitch dark woods. Avoid this circumstance entirely by securing your accommodations ahead of time.

Let all of your family members have a chance to contribute to picking a campsite. Discuss which state you wish to visit. Since the are so many great options to choose from across the U.S., it might be hard to select only one! It may be easier to choose a few front runners and have family members vote.

Do a “jungle breakfast” if you are bringing kids. You can tie small food and drink boxes into the trees. Then, have the kids go on a hunt for their breakfast when they awaken. This activity adds a bit more fun to camping.

Oranges can be used as a food source and a way to repel mosquitoes while you camp. Just keep the peels in a plastic bag after you eat the orange and then use them to rub on your skin as the sun begins to go down. It is a cheap and effective way to keep the mosquitoes at bay.

Choose a tent large enough for everyone that will be expected to use it. This will allow you to sleep more comfortably and get up easier during the night when you need to use the bathroom.

Your camp should always be set up before the sun sets. If you are in an RV, park it safely. If you are in a tent, you need to find some flat, high ground. If you don’t do this, you could find yourself in a precarious and unsafe area after dark. This will also let you avoid the frustration of doing it when it’s not at easy to see what you are doing.

Don’t forget the duct tape when you pack for a camping trip, to solve just about any dilemma! It works quickly in a pinch for tent holes, inflatables with leaks, shoes with worn soles, securing the tent to its pole, sealing up your mosquito netting and many, many more things.

Be well-versed in emergency first aid if you plan on camping out, especially if there will be kids with you. This way, should an accident occur, at least you are properly prepared until help arrives. Be sure to do thorough research too. Knowing about the native species in your camp area, such as snakes or other dangerous animals, is essential.

It should be clear to you now that you have plenty of different issues to consider when you prepare for a camping trip.
