Your whole family will love camping. Everyone can learn about nature and finding out a bit more about themselves. It can be very rewarding to experience and explore the outdoors. The following article has tips that will help you have a successful camping trip.

Don’t forget waterproof matches in a camping survival kit. Store these in a waterproof and airtight bag or container. You can add paraffin to regular matches, or even nail polish for a homemade waterproof match. Easy-to-find 35mm film canisters and plastic medicine bottles make handy cases for matches.

Due the fact that food was not packed properly, there are many individuals that get food poisoning while they are camping. If you decide to bring fresh meats you must be sure that you keep it in the right temperature to ensure that it does not spoil. Pack plenty of ice to keep any perishable foods cold and remember to pull the drain plug in the cooler so the food does not get soaked.

Camping means a chance to form lifetime friendships. Make sure to socialize with those camping around you. Camping is a great time for getting to know others. You are really missing out if you do not try to make some new friends on your camping trip.

It may seem trivial to remind you of this, but do not forget to bring toilet paper along when you pack. If your campgrounds or location doesn’t have a properly installed restroom, you will need to go outdoors in the woods. Leaves can be dangerous alternatives to toilet paper, so don’t forget it.

Flashlights, lanterns and a good supply of extra batteries are necessary supplies during any camping trip. You will surely find it necessary to illuminate things once night falls. Adequate light can help you avoid falling in the dark, or encountering wildlife. If you are bringing children on your trip, it’s a good idea to provide each of them with their own light.

Always take sufficient amounts of sunscreen. Protecting yourself from the sun’s rays is very important when camping. Also, make sure that you have a sunscreen with a high SPF. It can also be helpful to find a sunscreen that combines bug protection. When you go camping, you won’t want to have a lot of chemicals on you.

Look for the softest and flattest ground you can possibly find for your tent. Choosing a rocky or sloped spot will result in you feeling discomfort when you have to spend time in the tent. Always put a tarp down on the ground first so that water can’t get in and ruin the tent.

Make sure that your packing includes more than enough clothes and food. In case of an emergency, these extra necessities will make the situation more bearable. You need to be able to cope with any unexpected situation, such as bad weather or delayed departures.

If camping is something that you are new to, have your first trip close to where you live. You could have gear issues or you might want to shorten your trip. You may run short of food or need more clothing than you packed. A variety of issues could arise if you don’t know what to expect, so being close to home can prevent you from feeling stranded and stuck.
