Thanks to the insurgence of reality shows that focus on surviving in the wild, camping has become very popular in recent years. If you’re ready for an outdoor excursion that is fun and memorable, continue reading to learn how to go about it the right way.

Preparation could mean the difference between a good camping experience and a dreaded one. You must make sure you are completely prepared before you go camping. If you’re going somewhere you’ve never been, do a little research about the land. Find out the weather, wildlife and the layout of the land.

Don’t assume you can find wood at or near your camp site. Bringing some extra wood in a watertight wrapping is a smart idea for camping success.

When camping with children, create special themed breakfasts. Take mini-boxes of cereal, juice boxes and fruit out into the woods, and tie them to the trees. Then your kids can go out searching for their own breakfast. The kids will love it.

You can easily start a campfire with lint from the dryer. A month before your camping trip, begin collecting the lint from your dryer’s lint filter. Collecting lint in a bag will allow you to have a fire building tool for your trip. Your kindling will be easily accessible when you are leaving for your destination.

The way you prepare will determine whether your camping trip will be fun or if it will be dangerous. Make sure you always go camping only after preparing yourself fully. When you go to a new campground in a far away location, make sure you know about the wildlife and vegetation of the area.

Emergency Kit

An emergency kit is a very important component to have while camping. This emergency kit changes depending on the place you go camping, but you have to be certain it has the basic tools. For example, if you will be camping in a Southern state you should certainly carry anti-venom for the local wildlife that you may encounter.

Check the terms of your health insurance before leaving. You may need another policy if you’re going to a different state. Popping over the border into Canada could also cause an issue. Be sure to be properly prepared!

Purchase some special camping pillows. Since standard pillows can pick up a lot of humidity, debris or even creepy-crawlers, leave them safely at home. They also absorb moisture out of the air and can mildew quickly. A good pillow intended for camping, however, will keep the moisture out, which will prevent any of the above problems.

Children love camping, but be sure that you provide them with activities. Far from civilization, kids tend to get bored. They may not know how to fish or pitch tents. Expose them to these activities prior to embarking on your trip.

Try to add an activity having to do with swimming to your camping trip if at all possible. Any time you go camping, you are likely to miss taking a shower. By taking a dip in a pool, lake or river, you will have fun and feel clean and refreshed at the same time!

It is easy to see that many things should be considered when preparing to go camping. Now, you should feel confident that you know the basic ins and outs of camping in the great outdoors. You are sure to enjoy your next camping trip now that you are better equipped.
