Most people find that camping can be one of the most enjoyable trips they ever take. But it’s important to have some basic knowledge of camping to help ensure a safe and memorable trip. Read the following advice so you will be prepared for your adventure.

Though you may believe that there will be sufficient wood lying around for your fire, you may only be able to find wet lumber that does not easily burn. It’s always recommended that you bring extra wood and keep it where it won’t get wet.

Bring sleeping bags appropriate for the season. A winter bag for the summer will cause you to sweat all night. The reverse is also true. Using a light, cool sleeping bag in the middle of winter will keep you very cold. You may even develop hypothermia.

Let your family members all have a decision when it comes to choosing a campsite. Talk about where you want to camp. There are many sites in the country to visit that are nearby and are very beneficial. If it makes things simpler, list your personal preferences and then have the family choose from them.

Survival Kit

While you may count on Mother Nature to have plenty of wood to stoke your campfire, you may encounter only wet wood that won’t burn. Bringing your own wood never hurts, especially when things are a little wet and you know a fire will be needed.

Bring along an emergency survival kit, and keep it on you for the duration of your camping trip. Your survival kit needs to have water-purifying tablets, a type of survival knife, a first-aid kit, a flare gun, and waterproof matches. Your kit may be all that stands between you and certain death if you become lost, as the items within it are essential to survival. Remember to carry it with you and do not leave it in your camp.

Try to camp near water, where you can also enjoy swimming. When you’re out camping, it’s really easy to miss your shower at home. You will find yourself feeling clean and refreshed after a dip in cool water. This can lesson the desire for your home shower.

Preparation can make your camping trip easy and relaxing. Only go camping when you have prepared yourself for it. Research the area to learn about the wildlife and the geography and climate.

Take either a bandanna or handkerchief with you when you go camping. That small piece of cloth could become a potholder, a bag, a blotter or a towel. Take a few with you anytime you go camping.

Talk to your children and friends about the dangers and risks of camping before embarking on your journey. You can always visit websites that illustrate the dangers posed by poison ivy as well as other harmful plants.

If you are taking kids camping, have them eat a “jungle breakfast.” Bring some packaged foods, beverage boxes and even fruits, then tie them to trees near the campsite. When they wake up, they’ll have to search the “jungle” for breakfast. This is a great alternative way to keep your kids happy while camping.

Camping Trip

Camping is an activity that many people of all ages enjoy. Proper advice will help make your next camping trip more enjoyable. Hopefully the information you learned here will help you enjoy your camping trip.

Bring a bandanna or a large handkerchief with you when you go camping. You can use that piece of material for many purposes, such as holding a hot pot, cleaning surfaces, etc. There are a lot of different uses for it, so make sure you bring one on every camping trip with you.
