Toilet paper and baby wipes are two things that every camper will appreciate. If you forget to bring these little essentials, you could wind up using the uncomfortable leaves of nature instead.

Before going camping, take a course in first aid, especially if you plan to bring children with you. Be sure to avoid draining your flashlight’s batteries on your camping trip. It is easy to inadvertently turn the flashlight on when digging through your camping equipment. An easy way to prevent this is to switch your batteries around when the flashlight isn’t being used. Your batteries will remain fully charged until you turn them around the right direction, and you won’t be able to accidentally turn the flashlight on.

Survival Kit

When camping in snake-heavy areas, take steps to insulate your campsite from harm. Stay away from rocks, bushy areas and stacks of wood. Check everything you have on you to ensure a snake isn’t hiding in your clothing or bags. Seal your tent. Pack edges with enough sand or earth so snakes can’t sneak in while you’re sleeping.

Remember that nature is not just like your house. Don’t litter or leave your campsite dirty. The ideal camper will leave the campsite looking as good as when they arrived. By taking care of the natural world, you can help to preserve it for future generations.

Make sure that the sleeping bag you bring camping is right for the weather. If you take a sub-zero bag camping in the middle of summer, you will probably sweat all night, or even overheat. If you are going to bring a light bag in the winter, you may end up freezing and having a miserable time. You may even develop hypothermia.

When you are at your campsite, pitch your tent on the softest and most level ground you are able to find. A sloped and/or rocky area will make any time spent inside the tent very uncomfortable. Always put a tarp down on the ground first so that water can’t get in and ruin the tent.
