How To Camp The Right Way

You’ve never camped before? You’re missing out! Sleeping and waking up to nature is one of the most relaxing things imaginable. The following article will give you tips and techniques to ensure your camping trip is a success.

Take along a survival kit and carry it at all times. In your survival kit, be sure you have waterproof matches, a flare gun, a first aid kit, water-purifying tablets and a knife. This kit can keep you alive! Keep it with you at all times when you leave your campsite for any reason.

Allow everyone who is going on the trip to have a say about the campsite. Talk about the state you would like to go to. The options are plenty, so do your research! Narrow down your top choices and let your entire family decide.

When it comes to children, don’t hesitate to over-pack. Camping can be dirty! Kids are seriously attracted to the dirt. Because of this, your children will likely be filthy by the end of the day. Know that you must accept that fact, but have a change of clothing for them so they can be comfortable. Prepare ahead of time!

You can use dryer lint as a kindling to start a campfire with. Collect some lint from your clothes dryer to bring with you. Have a bag next to the dryer so you don’t forget to collect it. Your kindling will be easily accessible when you are leaving for your destination.

Over-packing is better than under-packing when it comes to children. Camping can be dirty! Children seem to be dirt magnets. Expect them to be all shades of dirty as the day moves on. While there is nothing you can do about that, you can have some extra clothing just in case. Always prepare!

Before you embark on any camping trip you should be sure you have emergency supplies on hand, like a first aid kit and more. This kit will change depending on when and where you are camping but should always include the basics. Having extras like anti-venom is a good defense for certain kinds of wildlife.

Purchase pillows that are made specifically for camping. If you bring a standard pillow for the bedroom, they become sticky and hot when the weather is humid. These pillows will also retain water from the air during humid conditions, so they can mildew. Pillows designed for camping have a coating on them that does not all the moisture to be absorbed.

When choosing a tent, pick one that has plenty of room for you and all of your camping companions. This will ensure comfort while inside the tent.

While kids love camping, they need to have activities planned for them. If you are camping in the deep woods, far from anything familiar, kids can become bored. Kids are often not used to outdoor activities such as pitching a tent or fishing. If you don’t normally spend time outside, show them before you go camping.

Plan your first camping trip close to home. You don’t want to be far away if you decide you’ve had enough of camping, or if you have problems with your equipment. Maybe you will find out that there isn’t enough food or clean clothes to continue. Many things can arise for the first-time camper, so camp close to home the first time.

The difference between a fun camping trip and a dangerous one? Preparation. Prepare in advance to avoid the downfalls of camping. If you are camping in a new location, research the local wildlife, geography and the climate before leaving home.

Now that you know what to do, start planning your camping excursion. As long as you keep this information on hand you will do just fine as a camper, even if it is your first time. It does not matter if you stay close to home or travel far away for your camping adventure, you will have the time of your life.
