Make sure your children have something to do while camping. If you are camping in the deep woods, far from anything familiar, kids can become bored. The may not be accustomed to activities like pitching a tent or fishing. This a great way for them to experience the great outdoors.

Make a list of your required camping gear and double check it while packing. Your whole trip could be ruined if you forget a couple of things. The creation of a list of all the things needed and use of that list when packing will be helpful. Make sure that you bring a lot of water, knives, soaps and food on your camping trip for safety.

Preserve the batteries in your flashlight. Flashlights can accidentally get turned on while you are traveling. Remove the batteries prior to transit, and then reinsert them when you get to where you are going. This way you will have the batteries and the flashlight, but you will not end up with dead batteries if your flashlight accidentally gets turned on before you need it.

Learn how to read a map or use a compass ahead of time. Even if you know the area well, getting lost is always a possibility. Learn to use these survival tools to prevent potentially bad situations.

Double check your medical insurance. Sometimes, being covered while out of state requires an additional policy. It is even more critical if you are camping outside of your country. Be sure that your insurance will cover you, no matter where you are.

Do not forget to bring a lot of sunscreen. Sun protection is important! Make sure the sunscreen you choose has a high enough level of protection. Ideally, look for a type of sunscreen that will protect you from bugs. You don’t want to be slathered with tons of chemicals on your trip.

For example, if you are going camping during the summer months, you will probably want a lightweight sleeping bag, so that your body does not overheat during the night. During the winter, however, a thick sleeping bag will trap your body heat and ensure that you don’t freeze.
