Camping is one of the most enjoyable things to do with family and friends. Camping is an activity that should be experienced by everyone if the opportunity presents itself. However, camping does require know-how and preparation. The following article contains great tips you can use the next time you go camping.

If you have a new tent, practice setting it up at home before your trip. This helps you learn to put up your tent and make sure there aren’t missing pieces. This can eliminate the frustration of trying to set up your tent in a hurry.

When camping, get your shelter squared away before nightfall. Once blackness falls out there in the woods, it can be extremely difficult to pitch a tent, find good firewood and prepare food. Those that live in urban areas find this to be the case even more than those that are used to pitch black darkness. Avoid this by setting up your shelter ahead of time.

Make sure your tent is of ample size. You should have no problem sleeping and getting through the nights when camping.

Make sure you know what the weather will be before going on your trip. You can visit http://www.weather.com to check the weather just about anywhere. Be sure to look at the 10 day forecast along with extended weather patterns. This information can help you better prepare for severe weather conditions.

Make sure your sleeping bag is right for the weather. By bringing a winter sleeping bag in the summer you may end up sweating instead of sleeping. Conversely, if you bring a light-weight sleeping bag to a winter camping trip, you can be extremely uncomfortable the entire time. In the worst case, you could be putting yourself at risk of getting frostbite or even worse.

Read up on your medical insurance. Leaving your state may affect your policy. This becomes even more important if your camping trip takes you to another country. Always be prepared.

A ‘jungle breakfast’ can be a great activity for the kids. You can tie small food and drink boxes into the trees. When they wake up, they’ll have to search the “jungle” for breakfast. This is a fun way to bring excitement to the morning.

Make sure that you know how to set up your tent before going on your trip. This will ensure that your tent is not missing pieces and that you understand how to set up your tent correctly. This can eliminate the frustration of trying to set up your tent in a hurry.

Bring a bandanna or a large handkerchief with you when you go camping. These can be used for several things, like drying your hands or holding a hot pot. Because there are so many versatile uses for them, bringing one or two on each camping trip is a good idea.

Duct tape is a must-have when you go camping as it can be used for a variety of things. It’s easy to use, can hold out moisture and will even fix a leak or a broken shoe!

Make sure you have a survival kit with you during your entire camping trip. You need to pack a flare gun, utility knife, matches and a first aid kit. This survival kit may be what keeps you alive if you get lost and the items in it are indispensable in a survival situation. Carry it at all times.

Kids love camping, but you need to plan out activities for them to do on the trip. They might get antsy once you start to get deeper in the forest. They probably aren’t used to fishing or campfires. Get them used to it prior to leaving on the trip.

As was stated earlier, you can have a ton of fun camping, but you do need to be educated, informed and prepared. Apply all that you have learned here before you strike out on your up-and-coming nature adventure. If you take the time to implement all you’ve learned, you can have a fun-filled trip.

If you’re bringing kids on your camping trip, over-pack for them. Camping can be a sloppy time. Children love the dirt. So, you are likely to be dealing with grimy kids all day long. To prepare, bring additional clothing for your children. Stay ahead of the game!
