You may be tempted to rush right out and go camping, but there are things you need to know and do first. Use what you read in this article to have a successful camping trip.

Remember that your loved ones and possessions will get filthy. If you know this ahead of the actual trip, you can prepare for the inevitable and get yourself some extra supplies. Use your time in nature to enjoy the chance to be a little messy. You can reclaim the normalcy in your life when you arrive back home.

Do not assume you can collect firewood from the area. It is good planning to take your own wood with you and store it where it is dry.

The lint from your dryer’s lint filter will help you start a campfire. Several weeks prior to your trip, start gathering up everything that collects in your lint trap. Simply hang a plastic bag near the dryer and stash the lint in the bag as it collects. Doing this means you can just snag your kindling on the way out the door the morning your trip starts.

Take care to pack sufficient, non-perishable foods. Depending on the length of time of your outing, you need to have plenty of non-perishable food. If you get sick on your outing because of the food, that will put a damper on things. Prepare your food properly and research any precautions you need to take.

Let everyone know they have a say in the campsite and should help pick a favorite spot. Think about where it is you want to go. There are various options throughout the United States that it may make it hard to pick only one. Narrow down your top choices and let your entire family decide.

Keep a close eye on your dog while you are camping and always keep him on a leash. Other campers may not like dogs, or could even be afraid of them. You should respect your fellow campers in the area. Additionally, your dog could really destroy anyone’s campsite if left on his own, including yours.

It is more enjoyable to go camping when you are properly prepared. By using the tips and advice mentioned here on your next trip, you can enjoy a safer, more relaxing adventure knowing that you have the skills and know-how to tackle any issues that may arise.

Bring a survival kit on the trip and keep it on your person all the time. A survival kit should include items like a flare gun, matches that are waterproof, a knife and other items you think you may need. For any life threatening situation, these items may be the only thing standing between you and disaster. Always keep it nearby and never leave it behind at the campsite.
