Ah yes, camping! It is a fun adventure with nature that offers a wonderful experience for families, individuals or couples. Camping is an exciting way to enjoy the outdoors, however, there are lots of things to keep in mind. The article below contains tips to help you get the most enjoyment out of your adventure.

Set up camp before the sun goes down. It’s hard enough to throw up a tent, but it’s even harder with the lights out. It is possible to do by firelight or by flashlight, but it will more than likely be frustrating and can be downright impossible in areas where there are hazards nearby. It’s much easier to arrive early enough to get set up before sundown.

Not only are oranges a great snack for camping, but they also serve as a natural mosquito repellant. Use the discarded peels to rub your exposed skin, and the insects will stay away from you.

Every camper should possess a basic utility knife. These pieces of equipment are quite versitile and can get you out of a lot of bad situations.

Some essential items you need to pack for your camping trip are flashlights, batteries, matches, hats, and travel size toiletries. It can be tough to go to the bathroom in the night, so you definitely need matches and flashlights. Not only will a hat protect you from sunburn, but it can also disguise unwashed hair if necessary! And you still want to be able to look and smell nice while you’re away.

Don’t wait until nightfall to set up camp. If you driving an RV, you should locate a safe parking spot. If you are in a tent, you need to find some flat, high ground. Making sure this is all done before dark gives you time to become familiar with the area. This can help you see what you are doing and prevent frustration.

One of the most common problems campers have is food poisoning from spoiled or improperly handled food. Food that has not been preserved, vacuum sealed or canned can spoil and give you food poisoning. Pack numerous ice packs to keep perishable foods chilled and do not forget to pull your cooler’s drain plug so that food products do not get soaked.

Duct tape is a must-have when you go camping as it can be used for a variety of things. You can patch holes in tents, shoes and inflatables as well as using it to secure your tent or seal your mosquito netting.

When you get done with your camping trip, clean up any of the mess you have made. Make sure you have garbage bags to clean up trash. Do not leave any left over food behind. The major rule for leaving a campsite is to just leave behind footprints.

Even though camping is a fun and popular getaway, things can turn sour without the right planning. With the right preparation though, your trip will be fun and exiciting. Plan well and prepare in advance to make the most of your next outdoor vacation!
