With popular reality programming focused on the outdoors, it is no wonder that we are seeing a resurgence of interest in camping. Continue reading if you want to have a camping trip that is enjoyable and memorable.

It is always a smart idea to look into what the weather is going to be like, before going camping. Lots of websites offer detailed information about average temperatures and rainfall. If you have the correct weather information, you will be better prepared with proper equipment and clothing.

Remember that your loved ones and possessions will get filthy. If you’re ready for this, it will bother you less when it happens. Just enjoy and appreciate being free in the wilderness; get stuck in and get messy. You can always clean up, and be “normal” when you return home.

Always prepare an emergency kit when camping, whether you are going by yourself or with others. This kit must include the basics for the event of an emergency. Don’t forget to pack the extra for your location, too, such as antivenom for snake bites.

Not only are oranges a great snack for camping, but they also serve as a natural mosquito repellant. Save the orange peels and rub them into your exposed skin. Insects will stay away from you for an affordable price.

Take along pillows that are especially for camping. If you use your bedroom pillows, the humid weather will make them feel hot and sticky. Because they absorb moisture from the air, they can quickly mildew. Camping pillows are covered with a special coating that keeps moisture at bay.

Duct tape can be used to solve many problems on camping trips. It is good for patching holes in tents, shoes, and inflatables. It is also good for securing tents and sealing up mosquito nets.

If you are camping in uncharted territory, make sure that you understand potential dangers lurking there. This would include stuff like what spiders dwell there, how steep the terrain is, and if the area is prone to flooding. Every camping area has different dangers that you should be aware of.

Remember to bring along wilderness-friendly activities. Playing cards, board games and fishing poles can make for lots of fun. If you bring your kids, these games will help to fill the void when there is free time.

Be sure and give children a thorough explanation of what camping is all about and entails, before hauling them off on a potentially dangerous adventure. You can always visit websites that illustrate the dangers posed by poison ivy as well as other harmful plants.

If a pet accompanies you to the campground, do not just let him or her run free. Other campers may not like dogs, or could even be afraid of them. Respecting your fellow campers is essential when camping. Also, dogs can damage your campsite or another person’s campsite if they’re not watched carefully.

Don’t forget the duct tape. Not only is it useful around the home, but it serves many purposes while camping. You can use it to repair a hole in an air mattress. Use it to enclose a rip in a tent, sleeping bag or weather-proofing tarp you have laid down. You can even use it to help prevent blisters on your feet. If anyone hurts themselves, it can be used for securing splints or for covering wounds, provided something soft is placed between the tape and skin.

You should now understand that some forethought needs to come into play for camping. But you should now be equipped to handle basic things that come your way. It is time to go out, relax and have a great time!
