Pitching a tent in the middle of the wilderness certainly sounds exciting, but it can go badly pretty quickly if you don’t know what you are doing. These tips can help you have a successful camping trip.

Always find your shelter before it gets dark when you go camping. Once it is dark in the woods, pitching a tent can be next to impossible, finding firewood can be difficult and preparing food hard. Those that live in urban areas find this to be the case even more than those that are used to pitch black darkness. Avoid this hazard completely, by finding adequate shelter long before the sun goes down.

Keep in mind that everything and everyone that goes camping is going to get quite dirty. If you’re prepared beforehand then you won’t be so stressed out when things start to get dirtier. Enjoy being in the woods and allow yourself to let loose and be messy. There’s plenty of time for showers and being super clean once you’re home again.

Pick out your sleeping bag according to what season it is. A bag that is intended for winter conditions will surely cause you to overheat when you are trying to sleep in summer weather. On the other hand, light-weight sleeping supplies will never keep you warm enough in the dead of winter. Extremely cold weather can bring about frostbite.

Do not assume you can collect firewood from the area. To prevent this problem, bring along a few pieces of your own wood. Make sure to keep that wood dry in your car or another secure location.

Include the family in the selection of the campsite. Discuss which state you wish to visit. Choosing one can be really hard in the United States, given how many places there are to go! To aid in this decision, you may want to offer a few of those that you personally like the best and than let each family member vote.

Include the family in the selection of the campsite. Talk about the state you would like to go to. There are a lot of choices in the USA; it is hard to choose just one. Try to select a short-list and then put it to a family vote.

Bring a survival kit that you can carry on your person at all times. Must haves include, but aren’t limited to, a knife, matches, a flare gun, and a first aid pack. For any life threatening situation, these items may be the only thing standing between you and disaster. If you don’t take it with you on excursions it will serve you no good.

Look at the weather forecast prior to leaving for your trip. There are lots of excellent websites that you can use for a weather forecast and they can give you an idea of what to expect. Armed with the proper facts, you will know that to expect and what to pack.

Weather Forecast

Prior to leaving on your camping adventure, look at the weather forecast in the location your are going to be camping. There are several websites that will give you the weather forecast for the week. When you know what the weather will be like beforehand, you can plan more appropriately.

Combine your camping trip with some swimming. While you are camping in the great outdoors, it can be very easy to miss taking your daily shower. When swimming, you will feel refreshed and cleaner. If you use some biodegradable soap, you can get just as clean as you would at home.

A camping trip is much less intimidating when you are properly prepared. Forewarned is forearmed, and this will ensure that your next camping adventure is more fun and less worry.
