If the last time you thought about camping was with the scouts as a child or with your family as a teenager, it is time to revisit the idea. Planning a great camping trip takes two things: knowledge about camping and the dedication to make the trip great. These tips will make your next camping trip a memorable one.

Waterproof matches should be added to your camping survival kit. Store them in airtight containers. To save money, dip regular matches in shellac, nail polish or wax to make your own waterproof matches. Easy-to-find 35mm film canisters and plastic medicine bottles make handy cases for matches.

Let all of your family members have a chance to contribute to picking a campsite. This will make everyone feel invested. Try to keep a small list, as there is such an abundance of spots to choose from, it can be hard to pick one. You could even pick three or four possible destinations and allow a family vote from there.

While on a camping trip, you could potentially make some new lifelong friends. Don’t shy away from neighboring tents and RV’s; interact. Camping is not for the introvert; it is a very social experience. You could be squandering a great opportunity to have fun if you remain anti-social.

Poisonous Plants

Preparation can make your camping trip easy and relaxing. Make sure you always go camping only after preparing yourself fully. Do your research and understand the local conditions and wildlife, as well as climate concerns. This is the best way to keep yourself safe and enjoy your trip.

Learn about the poisonous plants in the area you will be camping before you leave. They may look like a normal plant unless you are aware of what to look for. You can learn about poisonous plants by reading a book or Googling “poisonous plants.” This will allow you to avoid these plants.

Make plans in advance so you can have the most fun. Campfires and marshmallows provide hours of fun, but there is so much more to a camping trip. Come up with creative ideas and plan something fun for each person to do in your camping party. You may want to do different activities for different age groups to ensure that everyone has fun.

If you are interested in camping in the woods but have never done so before, there is a quick way to test if you will enjoy it or not. Pitch your tent right up in the sanctuary of your very own backyard, and sleep there for the entire night. Don’t wander back into the house at whim. Make yourself stay outside and live off the land that is your backyard, just as if you were deep in the woods! If this becomes a fun night for you, then you will love camping.

Take extra precautions if you are camping in any area that has very dangerous wildlife. This means to wrap things up as tight as possible, keeping things away from your shelter and avoiding certain foods altogether. Doing so will lessen your chances for an attack.

You may have enjoyed camping as a kid and want to experience it again as an adult. The keys are knowledge and desire. The information presented within this article can hopefully get your mind going so that you are able to recapture the passion for camping that you once knew.

Flip through your cookbooks before you go camping. Camping staples like hot dogs and hamburgers can get old. Try to mix up what you eat. Your recipe books probably contain some very simple recipes that you can recreate outdoors. Don’t forget to pack spice and seasoning favorites.
