Camping is getting a lot of positive response from people in the media lately, especially in reality-based programming. As a result, this type of vacation is becoming more popular. If you are one of these people and you want some tips and strategies on how to have a fun and safe camping adventure, continue reading for some great advice.

Select a sleeping bag which is right for the season. If you bring a sub-zero sleeping bag to go camping in mid-summer, you might find that you are sweating all night long. Alternatively, taking a light bag in the winter can lead to great discomfort. You might even get hypothermia.

When you’re camping, always look for shelter prior to dark. Once blackness falls out there in the woods, it can be extremely difficult to pitch a tent, find good firewood and prepare food. This is particularly true for those city-dwellers that are not used to pitch-black darkness. Avoid this hazard completely, by finding adequate shelter long before the sun goes down.

Make sure that you both carry a survival kit and then get in the habit of always having it with you. A survival kit should include items like a flare gun, matches that are waterproof, a knife and other items you think you may need. If you were to get lost or were put in an emergency situation, the survival kit will be of great help. Remember to take it everywhere you go when you’re away from your campsite.

Camping is a lot of fun, but it can be dangerous; the difference between the two is preparation. Be sure you’re always prepared before you go camping. If you are camping in a new location, research the local wildlife, geography and the climate before leaving home.

Preparation is key to enjoying your camping trip. When you are prepared, you avoid many of the common mistakes that are made on camping trips. Especially if you are camping in a new location, take the time to research the wildlife, plants, geography, and climate of the area.

A cute way to add fun to meals is to make what is known as a “jungle meal”. Take little juice boxes, mini cereal boxes, and fruit into the woods and be sure to tie them to a nearby tree. Let younger children wake up and hunt for their breakfast. It is a fun way to start the day and something for the kids to look forward to each morning.

The incredible orange should be on everyone’s camping supply list to keep away bugs and provide something healthy to eat. Save the peels when you’re done eating and gently rub them on your face, arms, legs or any other exposed areas, and you keep the pesky bugs away with no harsh chemicals and for a great price!

Purchase a few camping pillows to take with you. Regular bed pillows will feel hot and sticky during humid weather. They also take moisture from the air and that makes them grow mildew fast. Camping pillows are covered with a special coating that keeps moisture at bay.

As you are now aware, any number of unexpected events can occur when you are camping. Fortunately, you now have some great advice to work with in your preparations. Now, all that is left is to go have a good time!
